Obituary

Orville Marlin Pevonka, age 89 of Shawano, passed away surrounded by his loving family on November 29, 2014 at Evergreen Care Center. Born on June 2, 1925 in Leopolis, WI, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Paiser) Pevonka. Orville attended Leopolis Grade School and graduated from Marion High School in 1942. Orville was accepted into the United States Army in June of 1946 and was stationed in Japan. He was discharged in May of 1947. Orville was a member of the 1946 BABA championship team and was inducted into the Leopolis Baseball Hall of Fame as a team player in 2003 and as an individual in 2010. He met Irene Grandt on a blind date and on May 12, 1962 they were united in marriage. Irene preceded him in death in 2013. Orville worked as a milk hauler and cheese maker before working for the Wisconsin Dept. of Agriculture Weights & Measures, where he was employed for 34 years. Orv enjoyed playing basketball and baseball, but he liked watching all types of sports, especially the Packers, Brewers and Badgers. What Orville loved most was watching his grandchildren grow up. Orville is survived by his 5 daughters and sons-in-law, Marcia and Tom Buker of Antigo, Karla and Steve Duchac of Shawano, Debra and Mark Stroming of Marinette, Kristie and Todd Runge of Shawano, Sandra and Jeff Allen of Springfield, OH; 7 grandsons, Josh and Logan Duchac, Austin, Weston and Walker Stroming, Robert and Luke Allen; a step granddaughter, Brittany Runge; a step grandson, Bryce Runge; and a step great-granddaughter, Mya Coffey. Orville is further survived by a brother and sister-in-law Dennis and Lucille Pevonka, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Orville was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers and sisters-in-law, Clarence (Jean) Pevonka, Milton (Valerie) Pevonka and a sister and brother-in-law Mildred (Joe) Ashenbrenner. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 5, 2014 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano with Rev. Luke Ferris officiating. Burial will be in the Spring in the Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 9:30a.m. until the time of the services.
