Peter F. White, age 82 of Neopit, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2012 at his home. Born on February 11, 1930 in Keshena, he was the son of the late Peter and Elizabeth (Warrington) White. After graduating from high school, Peter proudly served in the United States Army. On April 25, 1953 he was united in marriage to Larena "Rena" Jacobs at the St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Neopit. After Peter's honorable discharge from service, he worked several logging jobs. He then served 18 years with the Menominee Tribal Police Department as an officer and later as head jailer. Upon retiring he spent about 15 years working with the DNR manning a fire tower aiding in the early detection of forest fires until retiring last year. Peter was an active member of the Menominee Snowmobile Club. He was also an original member of the Menominee Bear Hunters Club and along with his wife, hosted the Bear Feast at their house every September for many years. Peter enjoyed spectator sports, especially those that involved his children and grandchildren. He was also an avid Green Bay Packer Fan, enjoyed going to the casinos and deer hunting. Peter is survived by: his wife of 58 years, Rena; 8 children, Candice Firgens of Middle Village, Cindy (Donald) Waukechon of Keshena, Peter (Violet) White of Keshena, Michaela "Kelly" (Tony) Brown of Shawano, Brian White of Neopit, Matt (Linda) White, Sr. of Keshena, Curt (Carla) White of Keshena, Craig (Jolene) White of Neopit; 28 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren; and 6 step great-grandchildren. Peter is further survived by: brother, Bill (Rose) Washinawatok; 2 sisters-in-law, Mae (Carl) Sabourin of Butler, Myrtle Jacobs of FL; brother-in-law, Gordon (Deannie) Jacobs of Crivitz; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Dennison & Irene Dickenson, Bill & Shelley Williams and Bob & Nita Perez. Peter was preceded in death by: his parents; 4 sisters, Margaret Pecore, Mary Jane Cox, Mary Elizabeth Davis, Lillian Plass; and 3 brothers, Louis Washinawatok, Joseph White and James Washinawatok. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Monday, February 20, 2012 at the St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Neopit with the Rev. Robert Rank officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the Veterans of the Menominee Nation at the church following the service. Visitation will be held at the Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano on Sunday from 3-8pm and at the church on Monday after 10am until the time of the service.
