Reverend Charles W. "Chuck" Daily, Jr.'s Obituary

Reverend Charles W. “Chuck” Daily, Jr., age 82, passed away on Saturday April 4, 2026, in Appleton. Charles was born on November 2, 1943, in Oakland, California, the son of Charles W. and June A. (Hart) Daily, Sr, of Seattle, Washington. He had three sisters, Karen, Roxanne and Susan.

Chuck married Sara J. Jagodzinski at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin on October 28, 1972. The couple spent a wonderful 27 years together before Sara’s passing on November 29, 1999. Chuck married Pamela Engel on August 6, 2000, in Shawano Wisconsin then later had their marriage blessed at St. John’s, Kula, Maui.

Reverend Daily was a graduate of Ingraham High School, Seattle, Washington in 1961. He graduated from the Graduate School of Social Work, University of Denver, Denver Colorado in 1971 and the Graduate School of Theology, Creighton University, Omaha, Nebraska in 1990. Reverend Daily was ordained in 1980 to the Permanent Diaconate in the Roman Catholic Church, Diocese of Green Bay, serving at Sacred Heart in Shawano, St. John in Cecil, St. John in Gillett and St. Lawrence in Navarino. He was received into the Episcopal Church, Diocese of Fond Du Lac by the Rt. Rev. Russell E. Jacobus in April of 2003 and served at St. John Episcopal Church in Shawano, Wisconsin.

Chuck retired initially in 1999 from the State of Wisconsin Department of Corrections, Division of Probation and Parole, Shawano-Menominee County Office, Shawano, Wisconsin serving 23 years. He had served in the United States Army as a Paratrooper with the 503rd Airborne Re-enforced Combat Team, IX Corps, Okinawa and the 173rd Airborne Brigade, Okinawa. In retirement Reverend Daily was a parish Director at St. Anthony in Oconto Falls and St. Patrick Parishes in Stiles. Later he was a therapist at Homme Youth and Family Programs in Wittenberg for several years. Upon re-retirement while at Homme, Chuck became the first employed Chaplain with the Shawano Community Hospice, Shawano, Wisconsin.

Chuck was highly active in community activities. He appreciated serving the communities where he resided as an offering of thanks for the quality-of-life others made to his own. He served as the president of the Merrill Medical Recruitment Association with the former Holy Cross Hospital Association in Merrill, President of the Catholic Social Services Advisory Board for 12 years in Green Bay and Chairman of the Shawano City Police and Fire Commission.

He felt that his greatest accomplishments were in beginning the dialogue that led to the establishment of a liaison position staffed by a member of the Menominee Nation and the local office of probation and parole- leading to courts on the Menominee Reservation. Additionally, he gathered together interested parties and promoted legislation that enhanced existing law to allow county sheriffs to transfer Huber law inmates to the tribal jail by mutual agreement as had existed between Wisconsin sheriff’s but did expressly permit transfer to the tribal jail. Another of his personal achievements was to formally establish a jail ministry program now solely under the ministry of laity, at the Shawano County Jail involving lay members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church since 1985.

Following Chucks request there will not be a service. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Thank you to the staff at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center, Appleton for the care given to Chuck.
