Obituary

Rhonda Sue "Maehkāēnāh-Wāpanūkiw" Corn, age 48, passed away suddenly Saturday May 18, 2024. Rhonda was born to Elizabeth and the late David Waupekenay in Shawano on August 9, 1975. She was married to James M. Corn on November 7, 1998, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Neopit, Wisconsin. Rhonda was a stay-at-home mom/grandma. She was highly devoted to her grandchildren. Rhonda enjoyed sports and excelled at volleyball, golf, hunting and fishing.

Rhonda is leaving behind her loving husband, James Corn; a very special auntie mom, "Myrtle"; children, Steven (Fara) Corn, Kacey Corn, Kelsey (Tenoa) Johnson Corn, Elizabeth (Darwin) King Corn; special children, Brandon Miller, Katie Jo Mahkimetas, Regina Awonohopay, Kyle Mahkimetas, Taylor Mahkimetas; 12 grandchildren, Scarlett Miller, James Miller, McKenzie Miller, Colton Miller, Carla Johnson, Tenoa Johnson, Jr., Eilane Johnson, Barron Corn, Dallas Corn, Zaylla Corn, Rominn Corn, Levitt Corn. siblings, David (Candy) Mahkimetas, Robert "Uncle Bob" (Joyce) Waupekenay, Catherine Waupekenay, Daryl Waupekenay, Joe (Delta) Waupekenay, Sawa-Nubkiew Waupekenay, Mashaquit Waupekenay and Jesse Kaquatosh; uncles and aunts, Ed (Cindy) Mahkimetas, April (Darrell) Webster, Leila Mahkimetas and Regina Warrington; and in-laws, Gracie Corn, Jean Corn, Carla Wilber, Rudy (Renita) Corn, Lee Ann Corn, Carrie (Leon) Skenandore, Ronald (Debra) Corn, Sr., Alex Littleman/Olga Peters, William (Laura) Corn, Sr., David (Susan) Belongs. She is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Rhonda joins again with her father, David Waupekenay; special grandma, Jeanie "Bug", grandpa Howard, grandma Celia and grandpa Joseph; two grandchildren, Curtis Johnson and Gary Miller, Jr.; uncles, Sam, Ricky and Howie; and in-laws, Bill (Joyce) Corn, David Corn and Percy Corn.

Rhonda was eager to hold hands again with her grandma Jean and on this day she left with a smile on her face knowing grandma would hold her again.

A funeral mass for Rhonda will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Neopit. Visitation will be held at W1370 Rainbow Court, in Keshena on Monday May 20, 2024, starting at 4:30 pm and continuing until the time of service on Wednesday at church. Burial will be held at St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery at a later date.
