"Dick" Steinburg
January 12, 1948 – June 25, 2024
Richard Louis "Dick" Steinburg, age 76, passed away on Tuesday June 25, 2024, at his home in Shawano. Dick was born on January 12, 1948, in Chicago, Illinois to the late Paul L. and Delores "Laurie" (Steffen) Steinburg. On August 17, 1974, he was united in marriage to Gloria Lemmens in Clintonville, WI. Dick enlisted into the United States Army and was stationed to Germany during the Vietnam War. He was a combat engineer and served in the Army reserves as staff sergeant. Dick worked at McDonalds in Illinois and Ponderosa in Kenosha for many years. He moved his family to the Shawano area in 1989 where he purchased the Open Door Restaurant. He ran the restaurant for 8 years until selling it in 1997. Dick continued to have a career in convenience store management at Fox VanZeeland Oil Co. until retirement. Dick loved Civil War history, reading and Studebakers. He loved his model steam trains, a hobby he picked up from his father. Dick's train layout included model buildings that he built for each one of his children from the era of 1905 and earlier. He was an active member at Hope Community Church in Shawano. Dick was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother; he will be dearly missed.
Dick is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Gloria; children, Brian (Susana) Steinburg, Neal (Brad) Steinburg, Shannon (Matt) Metzger, Travis (Abbey) Steinburg; nine grandchildren, Andrea (Brittney), Sean, Gina (Riggo), Sophia, Holdin, Sawyer, Peppen, Rexley and Maisel; three great-grandchildren, Harper, Harlow and Asher; brother, Bruce (Rosanelle); and sister-in-law, Sandra.
Dick is preceded in death by his brother, Paul "Skip" Steinburg and parents, Paul and Delores.
A funeral service for Dick will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at Hope Community Church in Shawano with Pastor Richie Ford officiating. Burial will be held at Friendship Cemetery following the service. Visitation will be held at the church on Monday, July 1, 2024, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm and again on Tuesday from 9:30 am until the time of service. Military Honors will be conducted at the church before the procession to the cemetery.
