IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard Glenn
Dreyer
February 25, 1936 – April 23, 2024
Richard Glenn Dreyer, age 88, passed away on Tuesday April 23, 2024, surrounded by family in Shawano. Richard was born on February 25, 1936, in Chicago, Illinois to the late Gerhardt W. and Myrtle (Wasmund) Dreyer. Out of high school he went into the United States Navy and was stationed in Hawaii, Japan and Hong Kong and was honorable discharged. Richard spent time with his brother Jerry in LA, California before meeting Joan Thoms in Chicago, Illinois. In May of 1963 he was united in marriage to Joan Thoms in Park Ridge Illinois. The couple were blessed with two sons, Todd and Timothy. Richard learned construction and carpentry from his father-in-law, Edwin Thoms. The couple spent 17 wonderful years together before Joan's passing in 1980. After Joan's passing, he met Marilyn James. The couple got married in December of 1986. Richard became a construction superintendent in 1987. In 1993, they moved to Brookfield, Wisconsin, where the couple would travel for Richard's work. While working as a construction superintendent, Richard never met a coffee cake he didn't like. Marilyn and Richard moved to Sun City West, Arizonia and purchased a house on a golf course. During his time in Arizona, Richard made numerous friends. He enjoyed spending winter months in Arizonia golfing and fostering maltase dogs; most became foster failures! He and Marilyn spent summer months at the cottage on Shawano Lake, where he was the captain of the pontoon boat.
Richard is survived by his children, Todd (Laura) Dreyer, Timothy Dreyer, Ed James and Janice Sanders; grandchildren, Jake Dreyer, Heidi Dreyer, Jennifer Dreyer, Nikki (Josh) Forst and Danielle (Sal) Anzalone; great-grandchildren, Danny and Kennedy; sister, Pat Pettinger; nieces and nephews, Terri, Rick, Kevin, Robert, Bobby and Karen.
Richard is preceded in death by his first wife, Joan; second wife, Marilyn; brother, Jerry Koller; and parents.
A private family service for Richard will be held at Crown of Life Church in Sun City West, Arizona at a later date.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at ThedaCare Hospice, Shawano Place and Sue's Place in Phoenix, Arizonia.
