IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard "Rick"
G. Thompson
July 4, 1941 – September 24, 2021
Richard G. "Rick" Thompson, age 80, died peacefully on Friday, September 24, 2021. Rick was born in Shawano on July 4, 1941, to the late Ken and Lucille (Wilgenburg) Thompson. On April 4, 1964, he was united in marriage to Janice Monroe. Rick worked for Dearco in Shawano through his high school years and returned to Dearco for a short period after his service in the military. Rick then worked for Pittsburgh Plate Glass in Green Bay until 1972 and was instrumental in establishing and co-owning the Packerland Glass Company in Ashwaubenon. He sold the company in the 1990s when he and Jan moved to Florence County where they lived for 20 years. Rick returned to where it all began, in Shawano, to Dearco, where he worked until his second retirement. He loved his job and was an excellent mentor to others. Rick also enjoyed Goldwing rides with his wife, Jan, and was an avid outdoorsman. He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church of Bonduel and was very strong in his faith. Rick loved his family with all his heart and will be deeply missed by those he leaves behind.
Rick is survived by one granddaughter, Ashley (Brad) Bodwin of Sturgeon Bay, and one great granddaughter, Renley, brothers and sisters; Dennis (Kathy), Kim (Beth), Jan (Cliff), and Cindy (Jeff).
Rick was preceded in death by his wife, Jan of 55 years, his parents, Ken and Lucille Thompson, his daughter, Suzie Van Rossum, his granddaughter, Amber, and his one-year-old great grandson, Bramwell.
A memorial service will be held at Zion United Methodist Church of Bonduel on Thursday, September 30, 2021, at 1:00 pm with Pastor Ellen Williams officiating. Inurnment will be at Nicolet Memorial Garden in Green Bay. Visitation will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday until the time of service.
We hope you and Grandma are riding the Goldwing together in heaven.
