Obituary

Richard John "Rick" Schmidt, age 72, of Shawano, passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2017 in Shawano. Born in Waukesha on July 17, 1944, Rick is the son of the late Edward C. and Ann Marie Schmidt, Sr.  At the age of 19, Rick was drafted into the United States Army and served his country honorably in Vietnam until his honorable discharge in April of 1967.  On July 12, 1980, he was united in marriage to Sylvia Duranceau in Waukesha.  Rick was an extremely hard worker with an unparalleled work ethic.  When he wasn't working, you could often find him mowing, plowing or putzing in the garage. He enjoyed hunting, collecting Corvettes and spending time with his family.  He was a great husband and father and will be deeply missed.
Richard is survived by: his wife, Sylvia and son, Cody both of Shawano.  He is further survived by one sister, Karlann (John) Bostater of Gainesville, GA and two brothers, Edward C. (Erin) Schmidt, Jr. of Wisconsin Rapids and Dennis J. (Jan) Schmidt of Mukwonago as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Memorial services for Rick will be held at 3:00 pm on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano with Rev. Robert Duranceau officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Shawano American Legion Post #117 at the funeral home following the service.  Inurnment will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Shawano.  Visitation will be held on Thursday at the funeral home from 2:00 pm until the time of the services.
