Moses, Sr.
September 10, 1947 – December 9, 2025
Richard A. Moses Sr., age 78, of Keshena passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday December 9, 2025, at his home. Richard was born on September 10, 1947, in Wisconsin to the late Louis and Inez (Hunter) Moses. In 1968, he worked as a Berry Lake Constable. In 1974, Richard became a Deputy for Menominee County Sheriff's Dept. and in 1976 he became Head Game Warden. In 1978, Richard then became an Investigator for Menominee County. In 1986, he was elected Sheriff for Menominee County, retiring in 1993. On April 11, 1992, Richard was united in marriage to Elizabeth Tourtillott in Keshena. In his free time, he enjoyed traveling, especially to Canada where he made many lifelong friends, fishing and hunting. Richard was well known as "The Bear Whisperer". He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Keshena. I would like to be remembered as a lawman, adventurer, trapper, hunter, a good father, granddad and a loving husband.
Richard is survived by his wife of 33 years, Elizabeth; children, Wanda Moses, Richard "Ricky Mo" Moses, Jr., Jeremiah (Jennifer) Moses, Sr., Misty (Boone) Wayka, Dakota (Adriana) Moses Sr., and McKayla Moses; 19 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Tonia (Frank) Wilber, Brenda Lyons, Sharon (Cory) Potratz; Jacqueline Ward and Michelle (Michael) Peschong. He is further survived by many other relatives and friends.
Richard is preceded in death by his brother, Louis "Bo" Moses, Jr.; parents, Louis, Sr., and Inez Moses; and in-laws, Olga and Jim Doran.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday December 13, 2025, at St. Michael Catholic Church with Fr. Hanz Christian officiating. Visitation will be held at the family residence at N883 Eastline Road Keshena, Wisconsin 54135, starting on Thursday December 11, 2025, at 2:00 pm then continuing until Saturday at 9:00 am when the procession will leave for the church. A rosary service will be held at the house on Friday December 12, 2025 at 6:00 pm, by the Michael Kateri Group. At the church, the visitation will begin again until the time of service. Burial will be held at St. Michael Catholic Cemetery in the spring.
