Obituary

Richard J. "Rich" Vigue Jr. passed away Thursday April 20, 2023, at home surrounded by his family after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born on July 9, 1942, to the late Richard and Wilma (Tebeau) Vigue at the Keshena Hospital. Rich proudly served in the United States Marine Corps 1963 to 1966. Following his service, he did auto body work and was a Tribal Police Officer and Truancy Officer on the Reservation. Rich loved being in the Menominee Forest hunting, fishing, cutting wood and taking rides. He passed on the family traditions and the love of the woods to his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Rich was always willing to lend a helping hand to someone to repair vehicles, scout wood to cut. He loved to tell hunting stories and playing cards. Rich shared his sense of humor and gift of laughter with everyone he met. He won patriarch duties after his father passed away and took that role to heart.

Rich is survived by his partner of 40 years, Mary Lewellin; his three sons, Michael Vigue of Shawano, Paul (Laine) Vigue of Greenville and Christopher (Sarah) Vigue of Birnamwood; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Cody (Diana) Vigue, their children, Gracee, TJ and Riley, Brady Vigue, Kyle Vigue, Niosha Vigue; special grandchildren, Alicia Stern and Barry Eggert; his siblings, Bernard, Kenny, Carol (Simon) LaTender and Joan Leaman; Mary's family, Chris Olson, Pat Lewellin, Tom (Rita) Lewellin, Dan (Deb) Lewellin, Patrick (Peg) Lewellin, Theresa (Scott) Riege, Bess Jacobs and Jay (Ginny) Lewellin. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Rich is preceded in death by his parents, great-grandson, Holden Vigue and Sister-in-law, Bernadine Vigue.

A memorial prayer service for Rich will be held at 11:00 am at Fr. David Barrett Hall at St. Michael, on Saturday April 29, 2023, with Fr. Hanz Christian officiating. Visitation will be at 10:00 am, with Military Honors will be held at noon by the Veterans of the Menominee Nation. A private burial service will be held at a later date at St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery.
