April 3, 1950 – June 5, 2019
Ricki Jo Hawpetoss, age 69 of Keshena, passed away on June 5, 2019 surrounded by her loved ones at her home. She was born in Keshena on April 3, 1950 to the late Elmer and Edith (Oshkenaniew) Kakwitch, Sr. Ricki was united in marriage to Neil Hawpetoss Sr. in Arizona in 1967. Neil preceded Ricki in death on December 25, 1999.
Ricki was a loving wife, mother, auntie, sister, and grandmother. She was a good friend to all who knew her and she was a caretaker to many. Her hobbies included beading and playing bingo. Ricki was a member of the Menominee Warriors Society and American Indian Movement (AIM). She participated in the "Longest Walk" and was an active protestor for many causes. She always made room in her home for everyone.
She is survived by: her children, Rebecca Kakwitch, Charlene (Marvin Wayka) Hawpetoss, Neil Hawpetoss, Jr., Joseph Kakwitch, and Jeffrey Caldwell; her nieces, Valleen Menomin, Lisa (Rick) Vega, Vanny Wheelock, and Falling Leaves Webster; her grandchildren, Gloria, Danni, Mary, Ta-Shee-Na, Houston, and Ava; four great-grandchildren; siblings, Evenell Sanapaw, Elmer Kakwitch, Jr., Robert Kakwitch, Sr., Norman Kakwitch, LaVerne Kakwitch, and Crystal Caldwell; godchild, Frances Sanapaw; one uncle, Norman Pyawasay; as well as special nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, Elmer and Edith; her husband, Neil; stillborn twin sons; and three siblings, Sandra Webster, Eric Kakwitch, and Tonia Dick.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
