Rita Christine Baumgartner, age 79, of Shawano, passed away on Sunday, August 28, 2016 in Appleton.
Rita was born in Shawano on April 24, 1937, the daughter of the late Anton G. and Lorraine (Pevonka) Hoffman.
On October 13, 1956, she was united in marriage to Donald H. Baumgartner in Gresham.
Rita worked at Norm's Lunch, L & L, the Country Store and as a crossing guard for the city of Shawano for 21 years.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #117 and St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano.
Rita was also active with the St. James Retreat and a volunteer for the Shawano Area Food Pantry and Resource Center.
Rita is survived by:
her husband of 59 years, Donald; four children, Daniel D. (Sharon) Baumgartner, GayLynn Baumgartner, Douglas L. (Elizabeth) Baumgartner, and Dennis J. (Rhonda) Baumgartner; four grandchildren, Stacey, Timothy, Brandi, and Christine; and two great-grandchildren, Brennah and Brayden.
She is further survived by her sisters and brothers, Shirley Ebelt, Janice (Clarence) Natzke, Jeanette Crow, James Hoffman, Rosemary Buchberger, Rachel (Alberto) Mola, Ruben Hoffman, and Cheryl (Charles) Ketchum.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers and sisters, Gilbert, Carol, Roger, Antone, Jr, Frances, and Lorraine.
Funeral services for Rita will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, September 2, 2016 at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano with Rev. Michael Schram officiating.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday from 9:00 am until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for SAFPARC, Wisconsin Veterans Home at King, or a charity of your choice.
Rita's family would like to extend a special thank you to the Shawano Ambulance, ThedaCare of Shawano and Appleton, the Chaplin in Appleton, and anyone they may have missed, for the wonderful care given to Rita.
