May 10, 1940 – June 11, 2021
Robert "Bob" Joseph Grignon, age 81, of Shawano, passed away on Friday, June 11, 2021, in Appleton. He was born on May 10, 1940, in Keshena, to the late Raymond Sr. and Josephine (Nahwahquaw) Grignon. Bob was of the graduating class of 1959 from Shawano High School and went on to study at Northern Virginia Community Administration. He then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1962 and served until 1966 with an honorable discharge. He was stationed at camp Pendleton, California, Far East, and Lake Mead. After exiting the military Bob found work at the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Washington D.C. from 1969 to 1990, with his most current position ending as a management analyst. Robert was awarded the Department of Interiors "Special Achievement Award" in both 1976 and 1983. Bob was devoted in serving the Menominee Nation, and strived to gain funds for the reduction of alcohol and drug abuse, housing for the elderly, and helping through the Indian Health Service for the Tribal Clinic. He was a member of many organizations like the Committee Management Advisory Group, the Metric Conversion Committee, 3 rd Degree Knights of Columbus Association of Alexandria, VA, and the Menominee Veterans Association. Bob loved all Wisconsin sports teams including the Milwaukee Brewers, Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin Badgers, and Milwaukee Bucks. He was a caregiver to his entire family who he loved dearly.
Bob is survived by: his siblings Myrna Winter, David (Donna) Grignon, Mary Grignon, and Dennis (Linda) Grignon; his nieces and nephews David (Glee) Grignon, Pam Grignon, Jeff (Dory) Grignon, Ruth (Andy Kessen) Winter, Ben (Lucy Burr) Grignon, Dan (Nanaque LaTender) Grignon, Marcus Grignon, and Kenew (John) Tucker. He is further survived by numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; brothers, Wilfred, Raymond Jr., and Cecil; as well as two sisters in infancy, Delores and Mona.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday June 15, 2021, at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano with Marcus Grignon and David Grignon officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Veterans of the Menominee Nation following the service. Visitation will be held from 11:00 am on Tuesday until the time of service. Inurnment will be in St. Michael Catholic Cemetery at a later date.
