Robert Neta, better known as Bob, Rob or Robbie passed away at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison, WI on December 26, 2013 at age 68. He had recently moved from Chetek, WI to Madison to be closer to his children and grandchildren. Bob had been dealing with chronic health issues for a number of years. Bob was born on August 18, 1945 in Kissimmee, Florida to Elaine (Weissenborn) Neta and John W. Neta. He was the youngest of three boys. As a youngster, his family moved to Wisconsin to live on the South Branch of the Menominee Indian Reservation. His dad, John, started a logging business and his mother, Elaine, was the county health nurse. He grew up learning all aspects of the logging industry with his two older brothers, Tom and Jim, who preceded him in death. Bob was always known to be a hard worker to all who knew him. Bob loved sports and played football, basketball and competed in track at Shawano High School. He earned 10 Varsity letters and graduated from SHS in 1964. Bob married his high school sweetheart, Wendy (Pascoe) Oppermann, on November 21, 1964, and they were blessed with a son, Rob, and daughter, Robin. In 2010, Bob was honored when he was inducted into Shawano High School's Hall of Fame in recognition of his athletic achievements. Bob is best remembered in for attaining 1st Team All-Conference and All State awards for both Offense and Defense while playing football. His most coveted award was being named "Most Valuable Player" three years in a row by his football teammates, and this record still stands. Bob enjoyed driving a truck over-the-road throughout much of his working life and was proud of his impeccable driving record. His many other passions included his great love for the outdoors, hunting, his hunting dogs, logging, fishing, cooking, gardening, and storytelling. He was a teacher, mentor, and faithful friend to the many lives he touched over the years. Bob had an adventuresome spirit and loved spinning yarns and retelling his most vivid and heartfelt memories from living in Florida, Wisconsin, Illinois and Montana. Bob has now joined his beloved dog and companion, Jiggs, who passed away in her old age a couple of months before Bob died. He is survived by son, Robert E. Neta, Jr., and grandson, Zenon Neta of Madison, WI, and daughter, Robin (Greg) Voeller, and three grandchildren, Alexis, Braden, and Davis Voeller of Cedarburg, WI. His family in Livingston, MT, Jeanette Vigue; daughter, Kari (Clark) Kelly, and two granddaughters, Kami and Kaci Willson. He leaves behind his many friends, buddies, and family who will miss him, his joking spirit and laughter, and most of all his great love of "God's Country". On Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 1:00p.m. a graveside service will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Shawano, WI, followed by an outdoor celebration of Bob's life.
