Robert Roemmich, age 91 of Shawano, passed away Sunday, February 17, 2013 at a local nursing home. Born on November 19, 1921 in Worms, Russia, he was the son of the late William and Emma (Fehr) Roemmich. After the end of World War II, Robert moved to Germany where he met his future wife, Erika Klemm, at a dance in Elsfeld, Germany. The two were married on March 13, 1948 in Unter Gruppenbach, Germany. In 1953 the couple immigrated to Lamar, CO, in 1955 relocated to Burlington, WI and a year later to Milwaukee where Robert worked as a machinist until retiring. In 1967 they bought a lakeside lot on Shawano lake in Cecil and after retirement in 1983, moved to a condominium in Shawano. In 2003 the couple got a Leader Dog named Sonnet who became a wonderful companion. The couple had called the Shawano area home for more 20 years at the time of Erika's death on April 22, 2004. Robert was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bonduel. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, traveling and visiting with his family and friends. Robert is survived by: his daughter, Nina Merezhko; granddaughter, Vera Klimenko; and 2 great-granddaughters, Julia and Anna Klimenko all of Russia. He is further survived by: a sister, Emma Enders of Germany; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends living in American and abroad. Robert was preceded in death by: his wife, Erika; his parents; a brother, Henry; and a sister, Else. A Memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Monday, March 4, 2013 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bonduel with the Rev. Leonard Wildauer officiating. Inurnment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Monday from 10am until the time of the service.
