Obituary

Robert "Bob" Schlender, of Bonduel, entered his heavenly home on Saturday, April 15, 2023, having attained the age of 92 years, 5 months, and 18 days.  Robert was born on October 28, 1930, on the Schlender Homestead near Tigerton, Wisconsin to the late Frederick and Alma (Beyersdorf) Schlender.  He was born again in the waters of Holy Baptism on Thanksgiving Day, 1930, at Peace Lutheran Church in Split Rock, Wisconsin by Rev. H.J. Brede.  He was confirmed on June 3, 1945, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in the Town of Morris by Rev. Palmer Wahl.  His confirmation verse was 2 Cor. 5:17.

Bob graduated from Tigerton High School in 1949.  He served in the United States Army from October 1951 until 1953 during the Korean War and was in the Army Reserves until receiving an honorable discharge in 1959.  On May 4, 1957, Bob was united in marriage to Sharon Burmeister at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bonduel by Rev. Randolph Mueller.  Bob worked at Badger Breeders, Appleton Coated Paper, and Aid Association for Lutherans (AAL), where he spent the majority of his career as a field rep retiring in October of 1991.  Bob served as an Elder of Zion Lutheran Church in Wayside and was influential in starting N.E.W. Lutheran High School in Green Bay and was president of the Wayside/Morrison Lion's Club.  In his free time he enjoyed bowling, pitching for slow-pitch softball, playing cribbage, drawing, and golfing.

Bob is survived by: his wife of almost 67 years, Sharon; their children, Robert (Sandy) Schlender of Green Bay, Ann (Gerald) Ferdon of Larimore, North Dakota, and Scott (Donna) Schlender of Green Bay; son-in-law, Philip Fechhelm; 13 grandchildren; and 23 great grandchildren.  He is further survived by: siblings, Genevieve Buck, Gordon (Agnes) Schlender, Roselyn (James) Schultz, and Gary (Sandra) Schlender; sister-in-law, Joanne Scheer; brothers-in-law, Gerald Brown; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Bob was preceded in death by: children, Amy Goltz (Fechhelm) and John Schlender; his parents, parents in-law, Norman and Esther Burmeister, two siblings and their spouses, two sisters-in-law, and two brothers-in-law.

A funeral service for Bob will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bonduel at 11:00 am on Friday, April 21, 2023.  Military Honors will be conducted by the Bonduel American Legion. Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 9:30 am until the time of the service.
