Robert J. "Bob" Thiel, Sr., age 80 of Shawano passed away on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at the Shawano Medical Center with his family at his side. Born on October 23, 1931 in Shawano, he is the son of the late William and Carrie (Stemper) Thiel. He was a graduate of Shawano High School in 1950 and then worked at Hotz Manufacturing. He later worked at Dalke's Interior Decorations, learning upholstery, drapery and awning works. He then started Bob and Lee's in Clintonville where he worked until starting Bob's Carpet and Awning of Shawano in 1977, which he operated until retiring in 1996. He married Lucille Carter on October 27, 1951 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and they celebrated 60 years of marriage in October 2011. Bob played in polka bands in the area and also had his own polka band and served as the president of the Musicians Union. He enjoyed fishing, boating and bowling and is a member of the Shawano Area Bowling Hall of Fame. He also was active in the church community, serving as an usher. He was also an avid Packer, Brewer, Badger and Bucks fan. Bob is survived by: his wife, Lucille; his children, Mike Thiel of Green Bay, Susan (Mike) Blaha of Shawano, Joanne (Howard) Hudson of Shawano, Robert (Jamie) Thiel, Jr. of Shawano and Lisa (Dave) Wurth of Shawano; 8 grandchildren, Jenna (Derek) Jennerjohn, Nicole Emery, DJ & Cody Hudson, Nick & Stephanie Thiel, Lily & Jayla Wurth; 2 great-grandchildren, Ayden and Ana. Bob is preceded in death by: his parents; siblings, Arlan, Joseph, Elmer, William, Jr. and Blanche Thiel. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday July 7, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. Len Evers officiating.
