Robert Charles Wegner, age 68 of the Town of Wescott, passed away Monday, May 28, 2012 at his home. Born on December 27, 1943 in Shawano, he was the son of the late William and Helen ( Haufe) Wegner. After attending Shawano High School, Robert enlisted with the United States Navy and served for 4 years aboard the USS Independence during the Cuban Crisis. On August 21, 1965 he was united in marriage to Nancy Stoken at the St. Paul Lutheran Church-Stony Hill. Robert was an avid outdoorsman who loved to go hunting and fishing. He also cherished the time spent with his beloved grandchildren, and was thrilled when they would come fishing with him. Robert also had quite the green thumb and was the envy of the entire family. He was a member of the Kaukauna American Legion. Robert is survived by: his wife of 46 years, Nancy; a daughter, Amy (Randy) Mischler of Kaukauna; 2 sons, Robert (Lupita) of Milwaukee, Danny (Jennifer) of Beaver Dam; 8 grandchildren, Steven and Kelly Mischler, Tabatha, Sarah and Samantha Wegner, Jessica, Joshua, Rachelle Wegner; and 9 siblings, Warren (Rita), Bill (Joanne), Scott, Reggie (Patty), Sonya (Jim) Prellwitz, Jackie (Roger) Goerl, Doraine Degner, Dennis (Hellen) and Garth(Linda) Wegner. Robert was preceded in death by: his parents; a nephew, Joel Prellwitz; and brothers-in-law, Philip Stoken and Bob Degner. A memorial service will be held at 6:00pm on Friday, June 1, 2012 at the Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano with the Rev. John C. Eyer officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the Shawano American Legion Post #117 at the funeral home following the service. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00pm until the time of the service.
