Roger Barr, Shawano, 73, passed away on Monday, June 27, in Langlade County, while doing one of the activities he loved—trout fishing. Roger was born in Lancaster, Wisconsin on Nov. 25, 1948 to the late William and Jeanette (Moran) Barr. He attended Lancaster High School. Roger served in the U.S. Navy from 1967 to 1971. He was on the flight crew of hurricane hunters in Florida, but his main focus was airplane mechanics. His creativity in this role may have helped him polish the skills to McGiver solutions to any repair or construction problem throughout his life. He eventually served with the Airborne Early Warning Squadron One in Guam. He remained involved in Viet Nam veterans activities after he was discharged.

Following his service, he graduated from the University of Wisconsin—Stevens Point and received his master's in psychology from the UW-Oshkosh. Roger worked as a clinical psychologist in Green Bay and spent over 30 years in the behavioral health department at the Menominee Tribal Clinic. In his role he counseled fellow veterans in his broad counseling practice. He retired as director of behavioral health department.

On Aug. 10, 2007, he married Nancy Jensen in Green Bay.  The couple built a home in the woods north of Shawano, where Roger enjoyed working in his shop and keeping the bears away from their bird feeders. He was an avid fisherman, skier and camper, and enjoyed creating a comfortable living space in the back country while "boondocking." Roger enjoyed traveling with family and friends and visiting children and grandchildren in Virginia, Oregon and Florida.

Roger is survived by his wife, Nancy Jensen; daughters Emily Dryden (John Crawford) and Molly Barr, stepson Casey Massino; grandchildren Mason Dryden; Mackenzie, Zander, Collin Crawford and Bryson Barr; brother Jeff (Sook) Barr; sister Karen (Barr) and David O'Brien; Aunt Alma June Nolan and Uncle Roger Barr.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 5, at 11 a.m. at the College of Menominee Nation Cultural Learning Center, College of Menominee Keshena Campus, N172 Highway 47/55, Keshena, with Stephen Menard officiating. Military honors will follow services and be conducted by the Keshena American Legion and the veterans of the Menominee Nation. Family and friends may gather prior to the service beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the cultural center.

Masks will be required at the service and will be provided to those who do not have one.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Children of Vietnam Veterans Health Alliance (COVVHA) would be appreciated.
