Roger E. Grosskreutz, age 80 of Shawano, passed away Saturday, February 18, 2012 in Appleton. Born on November 18, 1931 in Shawano, he was the son of the late Edward and Viola (Luecke) Grosskreutz. After graduating from high school, Roger enlisted with the United States Air Force and served his country for four years during the Korean War. On January 3, 1968 he was united in marriage to Shirley Hokenstad in Las Vegas. In his younger years, Roger obtained his pilot license and enjoyed flying his plane. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. In his later years, Roger became a master woodworker and was a member of the American Association of Wood Turners, the North East WI Woodworkers Guild, and the North Eastern WI Wood Turners Association. Roger is survived by: his wife, Shirley; 2 sons, Jerry (Carol) Grosskreutz of Shawano, Dan (Diane) Grosskreutz of Clintonville; a step-daughter, Cyndee (Robbie) Remmers of FL; 4 grandchildren, Stacy (Mick) Kurland of Appleton, Justin (fiancé, Lisa King) Grosskreutz of Oshkosh, Shanna (Scott) Owen of Embarrass, Cody (Emily) Grosskreutz of Clintonville; 3 step-grandchildren, Robbie Remmers of AL, Heidi (Michael) McGee of AL, Nicholas (Jessica) Remmers of FL; 8 great-grandchildren with a 9th on the way; 3 step great-grandchildren; and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law. Roger was preceded in death by: his parents; a brother, Clifton Grosskreutz; and a step-daughter, Dawn. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Friday, February 24, 2012 at the Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano with the Rev. Loretta Waegli officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 4-7pm and on Friday after 10am until the time of the service.
