Obituary

Roger E. Hartwig, age 75 of Green Bay, went to his heavenly home on Monday, May 2, 2022. He was born in Bonduel, WI, to the late Emil and Dora (Wolf) Hartwig on May 23, 1946. Roger married his best friend and lifelong love Joy Genke on December 18, 1966, in Gillett, WI. Roger graduated from Bonduel High School. Following graduation, he ran the Hartwig family farm, "Hartwig's Cow Palace", where he and Joy raised their seven children. He then transitioned to general manager of a local co-op and completed his career in auto sales. During retirement, Roger loved playing polka music for others, as well as inspiring his mini-me, Brayden to play the accordion as well. He cherished his memories of working in the schools, impressing his compassion on the students he was in contact with.

Roger and Joy's marriage illustrated unconditional love. They were best friends through the good and bad, the highs and lows. Through it all, they put each other first. Joy was the perfect caretaker and never missed a beat. The life they lived is an example for us all.

Roger will forever be remembered for his love of God and family, polka music, telling jokes and one-liners, his distinct laugh, dancing, playing cards, trail riding, and always making sure everyone was okay. If you needed it, Roger was there to help and teach.

He is survived by his wife, Joy; children, Bobbi Jo (Artie) Pethke, Brenda (David) Krueger, Jamie (Evon) Hartwig, Tiffanie Courtney, Mindy (Brandon) Hoppe, Mandy (Joshua) Sanford, Megan (Joshua) Klug; seventeen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Dave (Jean) Hartwig; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

He is preceded in death by infant sons, Chad and Jason, parents, siblings, father-in-law and mother-in-law.

A funeral service for Roger will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, May 6, 2022, at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 2160 Packerland Drive, Green Bay, WI, 54304 with Rev. Justin Diestler officiating.
