Obituary

Roger Piehl, age 83, of Shawano, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, August 19, 2021.  Roger was born on March 19, 1938, to the late Henry and Viola (Kriewaldt) Piehl in Shawano.  In 1956, Roger graduated from Shawano High School.  He went on to attend UW River Falls where he played football and earned his bachelor's degree in teaching.  On July 9, 1960, Roger was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart Sally Moede in Shawano.  Sally and Roger recently celebrated 61 years of marriage.  Roger started his teaching career at Seneca High School in southwestern Wisconsin then Howard where he worked for WPS for a short time and eventually Bay Port High School.  While teaching agriculture at Bay Port High School he coached various sports and officiated for high school and college football and basketball games.  He finished his teaching career at NWTC where he looked forward to the farm calls with his students.  Roger was an avid walleye fisherman and loved being outdoors.  He also enjoyed hunting, camping, and listening to and dancing to polka music.  He was an excellent handyman and could build or fix just about anything.  He enjoyed sports and followed the Milwaukee Brewers, Milwaukee Bucks, and the Green Bay Packers.  He was an extremely proud grandfather and loved attending his grandchildren's sporting events, concerts, and shows.  Roger was an active member of St. Jakobi Lutheran Church and had a strong faith and a deep love for his family.  He was a kind and outgoing man, always smiling, helpful, and friendly and he made friends wherever he went. Roger was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend and will be deeply missed.

Roger is survived by: his wife, Sally; two daughters, Ann (Myron) Geiser of Kaukauna and Susan (Robert) Woelfel of Hilbert; four grandchildren, Zachary (Samantha) Woelfel, McKayla (Brady Roovers) Geiser, Alec Woelfel and Erin (Isaac Hoffman) Geiser; and one great granddaughter, Gracie Lyn.  He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; two grandchildren, Bradley Geiser and Logan Woelfel; and one brother, Arthur "Art" Piehl.

A funeral service for Roger will be held on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Jakobi Lutheran Church with Rev. Travis Kleinschmidt officiating.  Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Inurnment will be in Lake Drive Cemetery in the Town of Wescott.
