Obituary

Roger H. "Rip" Buettner, age 70 of Shawano, passed away Friday, September 09, 2011 at a local nursing home. Born on May 23, 1941 in the Town of Richmond, he was the son of the late Henry and Viola (Korth) Buettner. After graduating from high school, Roger enlisted with the United States Army and served his country for three years. On October 31, 1964 he was united in marriage to Marcia A. Montour at the St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. Together the couple made their home and raised their family in the Town of Richmond where they owned and operated Rip & Marcia's Bar for 25 years. Roger also worked for the Town of Richmond and the Shawano County Highway Department. Roger was a member of the St. Jakobi Lutheran Church in the Town of Richmond. He was also a member of the Shawano VFW, the Shawano American Legion, and the Red River Sportsman Club. In his free time he enjoyed hunting and fishing and took several trips to Canada. He also enjoyed spending time at the cabin in Sayner with his family and friends, watching his grandchildren participate in sporting events, and hunting and fishing with his grandchildren, especially his grandsons and littlest hunting buddy, Isaac. Roger is survived by: his wife of 46 years, Marcia; 4 children, Robert (Lori) Buettner, David (Noelle) Buettner, Mark (LoriLynn) Buettner, Susan (Dean) Gilbert; 13 grandchildren, Reynolds, Emily, Molly, Libby, Krista, Daniel, Isabelle and Isaac Buettner, Shania and Kaitlyn Gardner, Sheena, Marisa and Alex Gilbert; 5 siblings, Norma (Eldor) Martzke, Marvin (Elfrieda) Buettner, Willard (Virginia) Buettner, Daniel (Oma J) Buettner , Betty Booras; brother-in-law, Neil (Ila) Montour; sister-in-law, Betty Pederson; and many nieces and nephews. Roger was preceded in death by: his parents; his in-laws, Reynolds and Alvina (Parson) Montour; a brother, John (Judy) Buettner; and a brother-in-law, Lou Booras. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at the St. Jakobi Lutheran Church in the Town of Richmond with the Rev. Travis Kleinschmidt officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the Shawano American Legion Post #117 and the Shawano V.F.W. Post #2723. Visitation will be held at the Swedberg Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4-8pm and at the church on Wednesday after 10am until the time of the service. A memorial fund has been established for the St. Jakobi Building Fund.
