Obituary

Rowena Jean Oshkosh, age 79, started her journey home early on Sunday morning, April 3, 2022. She was born in Keshena, the day after Christmas in the year 1944 to the late Roland and Catherine (Waukau) Oshkosh. Rowena was hospitalized at a young age from polio and had paralysis on her right side for the remainder of her life. Rowena was a devout Christian and was active in the community and church activities in her younger life. She loved doing word searches and watching good movies. Rowena was at Birch Hill Nursing Home and made numerous friends with other residents and staff members.

Rowena is survived by her brother David (Ann Wilber) Oshkosh Sr.; her nephews Roland Robinson, Wayne Wheelock Sr., and Wes Wheelock; her sister-in-law Susan Oshkosh; her nieces Loretta Menchaca, Joyce Waupekenay, Amy Hill and Gloria Menchaca. She is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents Roland and Catherine; her sisters Roberta Robinson and Mona Wheelock; her brother Ronald Oshkosh; her three brothers-in-law Earl Robinson Sr., Robert Wheelock and Shabow Miller; her three nephews Earl Robinson Jr., Warren (Hornet) Wheelock and Stanley Oshkosh; her niece Catherine (Janie) Robinson; her great-nephew William (Billy Jack) Wheelock.

A memorial mass for Rowena will be held at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Neopit on Thursday, April 7, 2022, at 11:00 am. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday at 9:30 am until the time of service. Her remains will be buried near her family in St. Anthony's Catholic Church Cemetery in the spring. A luncheon will follow services.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Sister Stephanie Spence, Susan, Jerry (Gatie) Waukau Sr., and the staff of Birch Hill for their continued support and presence in Rowena's years of need.

A sacred fire has been lit to guide her on her journey home. Offerings of tobacco are welcomed at the residence of Dave Oshkosh at W2636 Chief Josette in the Warrington Addition in Keshena.
