IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Roy Carl
Harry Fischer
July 16, 1943 – March 4, 2025
Roy Carl Harry Fischer was born on July 16, 1943, to the late Paul and Emma (Regal) Fischer at Oconto Falls Hospital. He was baptized on August 8, 1943, at Immanuel Lutheran Church - White Clay Lake. Roy confirmed his faith on April 15, 1957, with a verse that would serve as a guiding light throughout his life: "Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life." (Revelations 2:10) Roy received his crown of life on Tuesday, March 4, 2025. He passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side.
Roy attended Bonduel High School, where he played saxophone in the band. He graduated in 1961. At 16 years old, Roy began working for Martin Boerst at Washington Cheese Factory, spending his weekends picking up milk cans and delivering them to the factory.
On February 27, 1965, Roy married the love of his life, Mary Ellen (Gunderson) Fischer at Immanuel - White Clay Lake.
Roy became the third generation Fischer to own and operate Fischer Family Farm in 1972. Roy enjoyed his work as a farmer, where he taught his family the value of hard work and doing things the right way the first time. In 1999, Roy sold the farm to his daughter and son-in-law, Nicolle and Ron Wussow, and Roy began working for Equity Livestock Sales in Bonduel, retiring in 2023.
Roy was a director with Manitowoc Milk Producers, The Bonduel Shipping Association, and National Milk Producers. He was also an active life-long member at Immanuel - White Clay Lake, where he served as trustee and elder, and played on the dartball team.
Roy was a simple man. He was a man of deep faith, whose relationship with the Lord came first. He loved working in God's Garden - whether it was his farmland, the woods, or his personal garden, which he enjoyed planting and harvesting each year. He always made sure to have potatoes planted each Good Friday, even if it meant shoveling the snow off the garden first. Roy also enjoyed making maple syrup from the trees on his land.
Roy valued family and friends. He was known by many as a hard worker who was always willing to lend a hand to others. While Roy worked hard, he also played hard. When work and chores were done, it was time to put puzzles together, play board or card games, listen to music, sing songs, and enjoy the company of loved ones. He loved deer hunting and butchering steers and pigs with his family and friends. He took great pride in making and smoking sausage, and having others over for a good meal.
Seeing God's beautiful creation throughout this world was also something that Roy enjoyed. He and Mary Ellen took many trips throughout the United States and to Germany, and Hawaii was a favorite destination. Roy was never content to sit in a hotel room when there were things to see and do. You could count on him being up before the sun, ready to go explore.
His memory will live on with his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Ellen, and their five children and their spouses: Michelle (Steve) Bahr, Ringle; Noelle (David) Buettner, Shawano; Nicolle (Ron) Wussow, Cecil; Melissa (Bryan) Teetzen, Shawano; and Ross (Amber) Fischer, Shawano.
Roy and Mary Ellen were blessed with 11 grandchildren: Megan (Jim) Tonn, Ryan (Kaitlyn) Bahr, Krista (Ethan Opperman) Buettner, Daniel (Liz) Buettner, Kaila (Joey) Tauchen, Colin (Brianna Sylvester) Wussow, Kylie (Tucker Pari) Teetzen, Braden (Anna Beaumier) Teetzen, Addison Fischer, Hailey Fischer, and Zachary Fischer.
They also have six great grandchildren with another arriving in May: Jordan and Madelyn Tonn; Huntleigh and Brantley Buettner; and Amelia, Vienna, and Baby Tauchen.
Roy is further survived by two sisters and a brother-in-law, Marcella (Sally) Mueller and Beverly and Harold Walker, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and eight godchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Emma; sister, Angeline "Angie" (Theodore) Zastrow, as well as his mother and father-in-law, Alta Mae and Alfred Gunderson; brothers-in-law Ivan Mueller and James Gunderson; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Shelby Jean and Dennis Bahr.
Roy will be laid to rest in a casket hand-crafted by Jon Gueths, made out of pine that Roy himself harvested from his own land. A funeral service for Roy will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church-White Clay Lake with Rev. Craig Nehring officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery in the spring. Visitation will be held at Swedberg Wendt Funeral Home in Bonduel on Friday, March 7, 2025, from 4:00pm until 7:00pm and again at the church on Saturday from 9:30am until the time of the service.
The family is incredibly grateful for the way Ron cared for Dad. They also want to thank special neighbors Vince and Laura Biskupic and Bruce and Linda Boerst for their constant friendship. An extra special thank you to the staff at ThedaCare Hospice especially CNA Heather, RN Sabrina and social worker, Chris for their wonderful care and compassion.
