June 1, 1930 – November 22, 2023
Ruben A. Hein, age 93, passed away on Wednesday November 22, 2023, surrounded by family at his home on Bass Lake in Gillett. Ruben was born on June 1, 1930, in the Town of Howe, Wisconsin to the late Frank and Elsie (Schmidt) Hein. Ruben enlisted in the United States Army and served his country honorably in the Korean Conflict. On September 13, 1952, he was united in marriage to Genevieve Otradovec at St. Joseph of the Lake Church in South Branch. The couple enjoyed 61 loving years together before Genevieve's passing in 2014. Ruben was a hard worker. He enjoyed spending time with his family during holidays and loved family celebrations. In Ruben's free time, he enjoyed fishing and doing wood crafts.
Ruben is survived by his eight children, Kenneth "Digger" Hein of Gillett, Darrell (Sharon) Hein of Holmen, Michael (Debra) Hein of Wrightstown, Jody (Bill) Van Camp of De Pere, Dennis (Diane) Hein of Shawano, Roberta (Wayne) Hendricks of Wrightstown, Myron (Chrissy Junion) Hein of Green Bay and Alicia (Steven) Wilke of Keshena; twenty-four grandchildren, Tracy (Jason), Shannon, Jason, Justin (Karla), Dawn, Nikki (Kevin), Brad (Jamie), Jeremy (Hiedi), Tim (Tina), Billie, Neil (Traci), Tonia (Ethan), Chris (Kailee), Cassy (Guy), Gabe (Cheyenne), Tammy (Craig), Amy (Ryan), Ashley (Corey), Logan, Alex, Melissa (Tim), Derek, Danielle (Mike) and Kristen (Tyler); and numerous great-grandchildren. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Ruben is preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve; his brother, Walter (Rose) Hein; furry companion, Sam; and parents, Frank and Elsie.
A funeral mass for Ruben will be held at 11:00 am on Monday November 27, 2023, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Keshena with Fr. Hanz Christian officiating. Visitation will be held at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano on Sunday November 26, 2023, from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm, then again at the church on Monday from 10:00 am until the time of service. Burial will be at St. Joseph of the Lake Cemetery in South Branch following services.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to St. Croix Hospice especially Kelly, Sabine and Chaplin Ben for the wonderful care and companionship.
