Ruben E. Schwartz, age 90 of Leopolis, passed away Friday, March 30, 2012 at a local nursing home. Born on April 17, 1921 in the Town of Herman, he was the son of the late Ernest and Helena (Bork) Schwartz. In 1942 Ruben was inducted into the United States Army and served his country for three years during World War II. While in service, Ruben was wounded in Germany, receiving a Purple Heart and fought in The Battle of the Bulge. On August 16, 1947 he was united in marriage to Esther E. Johnson in Breed. Esther preceded him in death on March 14, 1994. Ruben was the owner of Schwartz Sales & Services which was commonly known as "Schwartz's Corner" for more than 60 years. He was also known for the Ruben Schwartz Dutch Boys Polka Band and was a member of Elias Lutheran Church. Ruben is survived by numerous cousins and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Friday, April 6, 2012 at the Elias Lutheran Church in the Town of Herman with the Rev. Doug Heling officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the Gresham American Legion Post #390. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday after 10am until the time of the service.
