Sharilynne Denning, age 72, of Shawano, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2013 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born on May 5, 1941 in Cass Lake, MN, she was the daughter of the late Ralph Denning and Letitia (Daily) Denning Caldwell. In April of 1976 she was united in marriage to Dan Demos. After graduating from Shawano High School in 1959, Sharilynne attended the Alverno College. She later worked as a secretary at Allis-Chalmers in Milwaukee, the Milwaukee Indian Health Center and finally at Menominee Tribal Enterprise until she was placed on medical leave in December of 2003. Sharilynne was a proud honorary member and past president of the West Allis Charities and was a charter member and past president of the American Indian Chamber of Commerce of Wisconsin. She was also a past chairman of the Milwaukee Area American Manpower Council, Inc., past chairman of the American Indian Art Visions, past director of the American Indian Advisory Council of Milwaukee and volunteer for the Indian Summer Festivals. Sharilynne loved spending time with her family as well as going for walks, reading, and attending American Indian cultural events and pow-wows. Sharilynne is survived by: her son, Marin Denning of Muskego; her daughter, Cheyenne Caldwell of Duluth, MN; 2 grandsons, Taylor and Sawyer Denning; 4 granddaughters, Isabel Denning, Haylee Gaston, Desiree Marie and Jazzmine Caldwell; 3 sisters, Lorelei Denning Beauprey of West Allis, Crystal Caldwell of Keshena, Charlotte Caldwell of Keshena; 3 brothers, Randall Denning of Chicago, Alan (Cathy) Caldwell of Gresham, Eugene (Linda) Caldwell of Neopit; 4 stepchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Sharilynne treasured her very spoiled hound from the pound, a mixed yellow lab named "Mudd"; and her calico cat, "Nuisance". Sharilynne was a firm believer in adopting pets from the humane society. Sharilynne was preceded in death by: her parents; a brother, Gordon Paige Denning; a grandmother, E. Belle Daily; her only aunt, Alice (Joe) Matkovich; stepfather, James J. Caldwell; stepsisters, Stella, Eileen, Margaret, Mary Louise, Lillian; a stepbrother, Leslie "Hutch" Caldwell, Sr.; and her former husband, Daniel Demos. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on Monday, May 20, 2013 at W7392 Elm Street in Shawano with Grand Chief Edward Benton Benais officiating. Traditional burial will be in the Neopit Cemetery following the funeral service. Visitation will be held at the house from 5:30pm on Saturday until the time of the service on Monday. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family asks that donations be made in Sharilynne's name to the American Cancer Society.
