Shirley Mae Sperberg, age 81 of the Town of Richmond, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2014 at Kindred Hearts in Shawano. Born on August 8, 1932 in Red River, she was the daughter of the late William and Aurelia (Cotter) Zastrow. On August 27, 1949 she was united in marriage to Lawrence A. Sperberg in Bonduel. He preceded her in death on November 27, 1980. Shirley was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church in Red River where she was active with the S.U.M. Women's Society and took pride in doing quilting and baking for the church. She was also a member of the Shawano V.F.W. Women's Auxiliary and the Royal Neighbors. Shirley enjoyed watching and feeding the birds, polka dancing and spending time with her family, whether playing cards or getting together for the holidays. Shirley is survived by: 3 sons, Ronald Sperberg, Michael Sperberg and Rick (Pam) Sperberg all of Shawano; her daughter, Lisa (Randy) Pleshek of Gresham; 9 grandchildren, Brooke (Steve) Collier, Cole and Shana Sperberg, Nick Sperberg, Sara (Todd) Miller, Craig (Brandi) Sperberg, Amber (Greg) Riesenberg, Danielle (Troy) Kuhn, Reynold (Kayla) Pleshek; 13 great-grandchildren, Austin, Mikayla, Emma, Brock, Baylee, Cienna, McKenzi, Sullivan, Bryten, Remy, Brett, Braxton, Barric; a sister, Barbara (David) Habeck; 3 sisters-in-law, Lois Zastrow, Ginny Siebert, Nancy (Dave) Strehlow; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Shirley was preceded in death by: her husband, Lawrence; her loving companion for many years, John Genske on November 12, 2011; her parents, William Zastrow and Aurelia (Henry) Dallmann; 2 sisters, Violet Sperberg, Charlotte (Ruben) Habeck; a brother, Carl Zastrow; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bill and Florence Raatz, Gordon Siebert and Irene Lamberies. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at the Salem United Methodist Church in Red River with the Rev. Loretta Waegli officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9:00am until the time of the service. Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano is assisting the family with the arrangements.
