Simon "Mayone" LaTender, age 78, passed away on Thursday July 20, 2023, in Appleton. Mayone was born on December 8, 1944, in Keshena, to the late Simon and Marcella (Lawe) LaTender. Mayone was a Vietnam Combat Veteran and entered the United States Marines Corp. in 1963 the day after high school graduation. He was honorably discharged in 1967 at the rank of Sergeant E5. Mayone was awarded with the following: Rifle Marksmanship Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and National Defense Service Medal. On October 19, 1966, Mayone was united in marriage to his childhood sweetheart Carol Vigue at St. Anthonys Catholic Church. He worked many years at the mill in Neopit. Mayone loved his work and was proud of the men that he worked with at the mill. When he was young, he enjoyed throwing horseshoes, spearing, ice fishing, and was an expert at filleting fish. Mayone later loved to "sign in", listen to country classics, and watch the Packers and Brewers. Mayone always cherished his family and loved them dearly. He prioritized and was devoted to raising his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He will be truly missed by all who loved him.
Mayone is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carol; children, Lisa Dickenson, Mark LaTender, Lori (Craig) Corn and Kas LaTender; grandchildren, Lori Beth, Josh (Linsey), Joseph, Karah, Kemewaen, Namakesah, Bailey, Dayton, Chelsey, Ty, Keeden and James; great-grandchildren, Dereck, Jamison, Joshua, Oliva, Darnell, Jerrin, Kenny Jr., Marcus and Ellie; brothers, John "Hub" (Linda) LaTender and Stan LaTender. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mayone is preceded in death by his son, Kenny John LaTender; three grandsons, Kenny Sr., Chance and Connor LaTender; parents, Simon and Marcella; siblings, Marie "Honey" LaTender, Ronna LaTender, Fransesca "Det" LaTender, Donald "Smacky" LaTender, Paul "Cletus" LaTender, Myrna Lyons, Faith "Tubby" Weso, and Warren Kakwitch.
A funeral service for Mayone will be held at 11:00 am on Monday July 24, 2023, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Neopit, with Deacon Todd Raether officiating. Visitation will be held at the LaTender residence, N886 Lyons Road in Keshena, beginning on Saturday July 22, 2023, at 2:00 pm and continuing until the procession leaves for the church on Monday morning. Military honors will be conducted by the Veterans of the Menominee Nation after the service.
