Stanley J. "Stash" Gorecki, age 90, of Shawano, passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2016.
He was born in Kenosha on January 4, 1926 to the late Stanley and Anna (Lasniak) Gorecki.
Following his graduation from Kenosha High School, Stanley served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Bergen.
He served from July 1944 through May of 1946, during which time he received the following medals: Victory Medal, American Area Campaign Medal and Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal.
He attended the University of Wisconsin Madison before being drafted into professional baseball by Philadelphia, where he played for two years.
Along with his brother, Joe, Stanley was manager and co-owner of Gorecki Sentry Foods in Kenosha.
On June 11, 1960, he was united in marriage to Barbara Struss; the couple moved to the Legend Lake area in 1977 and Barbara preceded him in death on March 14, 2007.
Stanley was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano.
Stanley is survived by:
his children, Kristin (Tim) Martin of Kenosha and their children, Emily and Holly, Scott (Jan) Gorecki of Shawano and their son, Benjamin, and Abigail (Brian) Dovorany of Green Bay and their children, Olivia and Lauren; two great-grandchildren; and his brother Joseph Gorecki of Kenosha.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; one son, Timothy; his parents; and one sister, Anne Wieczorek.
Funeral services for Stanley will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, December 23, 2016 at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano with Rev. Ted Andrada officiating.
Burial will be in the Lake Drive Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the Shawano American Legion Post #117.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 1:00 pm until the time of the service.
