Stanley J. Ratner, age 98 of Shawano, passed away Monday, July 8, 2013 at a local nursing home. Born on May 25, 1915 in Chicago, IL, he was the son of the late Dave and Sophie (Lipsky) Ratner. After graduating from high school in Chicago, Stanley furthered his education at Northwestern University. On November 18, 1938 he was united in marriage to Dorothy E. Mahy in Chicago. The couple later moved to the Shawano area in 1952 where they established and operated the Washerette. Stanley is survived by: his 2 daughters, Carole Sand of Appleton, Kathy (Donald) Derman of New York City; 2 granddaughters, Kristen (Jeff) Laforet of Mesa, AZ and their son Tanner, Stephanie Brecke of Wausau and her children, Aliena and Kole. Stanley was preceded in death by: his beloved wife of 61 years, Dorothy who passed away on September 2, 2000; his parents; a brother, Marvin Ratner; and a son-in-law, James Sand. A memorial service will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at the Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano with the Rev. Susan Phillips officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:30am until the time of the service.
