Thomas Jay Anker
09/13/1938 - 04/26/2026
Class of 87’ in Shawano
Known to most as Tom, Tommy, or his favorite Thomas jay. He will be remembered fondly for his silliness, kindness, loyalty and passion. He was a man you could always count on, offering a helping hand without having to be asked. Tom listened without judgment, gave thoughtful advice, and shared his vast wisdom and knowledge freely with anyone willing to learn. Many looked up to him and his presence brought comfort, peace and light to anyone around him.
Tom lived a life full of passions from BMX to Drawing, Cooking, Creating, Renovating, Gardening, Foraging, Fishing, Sports, and Playing pool with his friends. Basically, anything to keep his hands busy and creativity flowing. Nature was where Tom felt most calm and at peace, and the outdoors was a place he loved to explore and share with others.
Above all Tom’s greatest passion and proudest accomplishment in life was being a dad. His daughter, Rachel, being his greatest pride the most important thing in his life. He loved teasing and being the “embarrassing” dad, anything to make her laugh. He taught her to be adventurous, brave, and witty. They shared many outdoor experiences together, building memories rooted in laughter and love. Tom was also the very best dog grandpa to Amoura (aka Pig) and Boi—a title he cherished just as much.
Professionally, Tom was an extraordinarily talented chef Graduating with a culinary degree from UW Oshkosh and Fox Valley. Then went on to build an impressive career in the culinary world Being a Sous and then excelling to Executive Chef at respected establishments including the Radisson, Oneida Golf and Country Club, Green Bay County Club and He was perhaps best known for Anello’s Torchlight, where his journey began at just 14 years old.
With impeccable taste and remarkable skill, Tom served everyone with the same pride and dedication from Hall of fame Packers to loved ones and everyday families. Tom preferred the hustle and heart of the kitchen to recognition. Still, his pride was evident in every meal he served. He loved creating new dishes, experimenting, and pushing his craft forward, leaving behind a legacy of excellence and passion. A true Chef and Artist at heart.
Tom is survived by his Daughter Rachel Anker, Sister Tammy Anker Jakl, Mother Rita Raasch Mondus, Stepfather John Mondus, Nephews Owen and Hayden Jakl, and Nieces Camery Anker and Avery Jakl. He remained close friends and considered many of the Hoffman’s as family such as Zach, Jodi, Curtis, and Bradley.
Proceeded in death; his father Joseph Anker, Grandparents Marvin and Viola Anker, also Elizabeth and Henry Raasch, Infant sister Lisa Marie, Aunt Mary Raasch, and Step (or chosen) Daughter Jessica Hoffman.
Thomas Jay was an incredible man, talented beyond belief, with a sense of humor, a mischievous smile, a dimple in his cheek that will never be forgotten. He was taken far too soon and will be greatly missed by many.
