Thomas "Flat" Bartz, Sr., age 76 of Mountain, passed away Monday, May 20, 2013. Born on September 17, 1936 in Winnetka, IL, he was the son of the late Russell A. and Thelma (Bench) Bartz, Sr. On April 12, 1958 he was united in marriage to Carol Johnson in Evanston, IL. The couple made their home and raised their family in Illinois until moving to the Mountain area into the log home that Tom built with his family. When not working, Tom enjoyed rebuilding old cars and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He was a great man with many friends and a joking personality who will be greatly missed by all, especially by his wife who always kissed him goodnight. Tom is survived by: his loving wife of 55 years, Carol; 3 sons, Russell (Emily) Bartz of Elgin, IL, Thomas (Kristine) Bartz, Jr. of Ingleside, IL, Jim (Suzanne) Bartz of Mount Prospect, IL; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Russel A. Bartz, Jr. of Barrington, IL. No formal services will be held. Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano is assisting the family with the arrangements. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family asks that donations be made towards the purchase of a headstone for Thomas.
