"Tom" Kugel
November 10, 1935 – October 5, 2025
Thomas Matthew "Tom" Kugel, age 89, passed away on Sunday October 5, 2025, at his home in Shawano. Tom was born on November 10, 1935, at the home farm in the Town of Waukechon to the late Frank and Barbara (Stempa) Kugel. He graduated from Shawano High School in 1954. Tom then went on to serve his country proudly in the United States Army; where he was stationed in Germany. During his time in the service, he won 1st place in the carbine shoulder to shoulder match on July 3, 1957. On April 4, 1959, Tom was united in marriage to Sally Maltbey at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The couple spent a wonderful 62 years together before Sally's passing in 2021. He worked for Badger Breeders for six years. At the age of 27, he brought a dairy farm and began doing what he loved the most. He enjoyed deer hunting and spent many years as a member on the Town of Waukechon Town Board. Tom was an amazing father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.
Tom is survived by his children, Theresa (Steven) Gueths, Joseph Kugel, David (Nanette) Kugel and Peter (Tonie Dunst) Kugel; grandsons, Andrew Gueths and Austin (Kaitlynn) Gueths; great-grandchildren, Owen and Emelia. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Tom is preceded in death by his wife, Sally; brothers, Clarence (Clara) Kugel, Matthew Kugel, Francis (Cecelia) Kugel, Jim (Geraldine) Kugel, John Kugel and Bernard (Marion) Kugel; and parents, Frank and Barbara.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 am on Friday October 10, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Edward Looney officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 9:30 am until the time of service. Burial will be held at the St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in the Town of Waukechon. Military Honors will be conduct by the Shawano American Legion Post # 117 held at the cemetery. Memorial fund has been established.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Shawano ThedaCare Hospice for the wonderful care given to Tom.
