Thomas L. "Tom" Schwitzer, age 71 of Shawano, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, August 23, 2011. Born on December 15, 1939 in the Town of Hermansfort, he was the son of the late George and Marie (Giessel) Schwitzer. After graduating from high school, Tom enlisted with the United States Army. On August 22, 1964 he was united in marriage to Karen Bohr at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano. Tom was an avid outdoorsman. He also enjoyed woodworking and even built the family home. Tom was a devoted and loving father and grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his entire family. He also enjoyed golfing. Tom is survived by: his wife of 47 years, Karen; 2 sons, Michael of Milwaukee, Mark (Amy) of Shawano; 2 grandsons, Ethan, Ryan; a sister, Janice Jones of Shawano; and 2 sisters-in-law, Irene Schwitzer of CO and Lila Schwitzer of Shawano. Tom was preceded in death by: his parents; 4 brothers; and 3 sisters. Funeral services will be held at 7:00pm on Friday, August 26, 2011 at the St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano with the Rev. Ronald Raddatz officiating with Military Rites conducted by the Shawano American Legion Post #117 following the service. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday after 5pm until the time of the service. Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano is assisting the family with the arrangements.
