Obituary

Tom Martin, son of Dorothy and the late Herb Martin, died February 5, 2022, at the Appleton Medical Center following a brief illness. Thomas William Martin was born on November 6, 1953; he was baptized and confirmed at St. James in Shawano and lived most of his life at his home on the Shawano Lake channel.

As a talented carpenter, Tom built his own home. He also worked as a groundskeeper at a local golf course. He complained about getting up during the night to water the course but enjoyed the solitude and outdoors. His hobbies were cutting firewood for his wood-burning furnace, and yard work for his mother. He visited her regularly, maintaining her home and yard and enabling her to remain at the lake home once Herb died. He disliked large family gatherings but was always there when needed. He truly will be missed by his family and friends.

Tom was a private, quiet man who enjoyed spending time with his dachshund, Lucky. He rescued Lucky several years ago and they became inseparable. Lucky accompanied Tom whenever possible and he could be seen sitting in the front seat of Tom's truck or inside his jacket. Much like his father Herb, Tom spent time working on his red Ford Mustang. His preferred mode of transportation, however, was his Norton motorcycle. He spent his free time traveling on his cycle in the West.

Tom is survived by his mother, Dorothy; siblings Sue (Jim) Zernicke of Middleton; Chris (Bob) Johnson; Mary; and Jim, all of Shawano. He is further survived by his former wife Dinah and her daughter, Justine. He was preceded in death by his father, Herb.

A private family service will be held later. In lieu of flowers, Tom would have preferred donations to the Humane Society.
