Verna Irene Weisnicht, age 88, passed away on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, in Shawano. Verna was born on October 11, 1935, in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, daughter of the late Oscar and Eleanor (Brutlag) Schultz. On September 15, 1951, she was united in marriage to Melvin Weisnicht in Shawano. The couple spent 68 years together before Melvin's passing in November of 2019. Melvin and Verna owned and operated a farm for many years and Verna also worked as an LPN at Pine Manor Nursing Home.  The couple enjoyed going to flea markets and bowling together. Verna also enjoyed playing Keno. She was an outgoing, charismatic woman and could talk or joke with anyone. Verna was a member of St. Martin Lutheran Church in the Town of Belle Plaine. She had an extremely strong faith and love for God, and she prayed for everyone every night. Verna was a caring and loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and will be deeply missed and always remembered by her family and loved ones she leaves behind.

Left to cherish Verna's memory are: her children, Michael (Dee) Weisnicht, Joanne (Kelvin) Olson, and Mark (Patti) Weisnicht; son-in-law, Darrell Walker; three grandchildren, Eric (Liz) Olson, Chad (Stacy) Olson, and Kari (Mike) Stern; and four great-grandchildren, Chase Olson and Madison, Mackenzie, and Elliott Stern. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Verna is preceded in death by: her husband; a daughter, Patricia Walker; her parents; stepfather, Walter Baehr; three sisters, Audrey (James) Coleman, Elva (Vernon) Weisnicht, and Gertrude (William) Ruechel; and brothers-in-law, James (Edwina) Weisnicht, Willis (Donna) Weisnicht, Fritz (Anna Clare) Keuschel, and Wilfred (Helen) Keuschel.

A funeral service for Verna will be held at 11:00 am on Monday July 29, 2024, at St. Martin Lutheran Church in the Town of Belle Plaine with Rev. Kurt Kluge officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Monday from 9:30 am until the time of the service. Memorials may be directed to St. Martin Lutheran Church.
