Victoria Marie Yazzie, age 77, of Keshena passed away peacefully on September 22, 2026, at her home. She was born on July 2, 1949, in Shawano to the late Waylen and Patricia (Stevens) Peters. She graduated from Long Beach State College pursuing a degree in psychology. In Victoria’s youth, she was a wild and free-spirited activist and was proud to have been alongside her fellow Native Americans in the AIM movement during the occupation of Alcatraz in San Francisco Bay. She worked at Hughs Helicopters as a painter for four years and boasted about being able to paint the Magnum PI Helicopter blades. In 1973, Victoria united in marriage to Sam Yazzie in Oklahoma. The couple spent over 50 wonderful years together before his passing in 2022. While in Tulsa Oklahoma, she worked as a kitchen manager in for St. Peter Paul School and then at the Hard Rock Casino before moving back to her reservation in Keshena where she retired. Victoria loved raising her boys and was a very devoted mother to them. In her free time, she enjoyed fishing and going on road trips, especially to California to see her family. Victoria was the calm in any storm and always saw the good in people. She gave the benefit of the doubt to anyone going through a hard time. Victoria gave as much as she could to those in need, especially her time.

Victoria is survived by her sons, Jason Yazzie, Samuel Yazzie, Jr., and Joshua (Kylene) Yazzie; grandchildren, Sterling, Slade and Sajen; faithful dogs, Baby Girl, Johnny and Frankie; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Victoria is preceded in death by her husband, Sam Yazzie; siblings, Tom (Barbara) Peters and Frank (Harlene) Peters; and parents, Waylen and Patricia Peters.

Private family services were held.
