Violet J. Butler, age 80 of Shawano, passed away Sunday, December 16, 2012 in Appleton. Born on May 19, 1932 in Keshena, she was the daughter of the late Jedidiah Butler and Josephine Peters. Violet lived in the Shawano/Keshena area most of her life and was a member of the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Keshena. She was an avid pool shark all her life and enjoyed playing scrabble, crocheting and going to the casino. Violet is survived by: 7 children, Renee (Nolan) Makimetas of Keshena, Glenda (fiancé, Carmelo) Hollsten of Appleton, Judith Newton of Shawano, Eugene (Shadow) Newton of Tomah, Everett (Candy) Newton of Green Bay, Mike Newton of Green Bay, Jerry Newton of Menasha; a special daughter, Jennie Kitchenakow of Milwaukee; a son-in-law, Sgt. Allen McCann of Gresham; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 2 great great-granddaughters. Violet was preceded in death by: a daughter, Sandra McCann; her parents; 4 brothers; and 2 sisters. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, December 20, 2012 at the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Keshena with the Rev. David McElroy O Praem officiating. Visitation will be held at the Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano on Wednesday from noon until 8pm and at the church on Thursday from 9am until the time of the service.
