Virginia Mae Cady, age 85, of Shawano, passed away on February 21, 2020 at Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa. She was born on October 9, 1934, in Rhinelander, to the late Gordon and Emily (Clark) Spengler. Virginia was united in marriage to Lloyd Cady on February 28, 1953 in Rhinelander. They lived in Rhinelander for 17 years before moving to Shawano in 1973. Lloyd preceded her in death on November 7, 2016. Virginia is a member of Church on the Hill (Shawano United Methodist Church) where she was active with the choir, church plays, and organized funeral lunches and the annual cookie walk. Virginia was a Dietary Manager at Shawano Convalescent Home for many years. Virginia was also a member of the Shawano Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, United Methodist Woman, and Bethel Guardian of Job's Daughters. She is also a former Girl Scout Leader and Den Mother. Virginia loved her family and friends dearly and will be missed by all who have ever met her.
Virginia is survived by five children: Daniel Cady of Shawano, Lawrence Cady of Tigerton, Pamela Meyer of Greendale, Debra Cady of Rochester, NY, and Steven Cady of Manitowoc; Grandchildren: Jamie (Chad) Herman, Mandy (Jason) Krogh, Shawn (Jenah Swetlik) Cady, Amber (Chris Povish) Cady, Jason (Jessie Clapper) Cady, Jeremy (Rochelle) Basterash, Jennifer Meyer, Jesica Meyer, Christina Meyer, Katrianna Kleinschmidt, and Skyler Kleinschmidt; Great-grandchildren: Nichole, Travis, Stephanie, Collin, Zachary, Jestina, J.J., Breanne, Payge, Aaliyah, Braidyn, Kameron, Jaxzyn, Maddy, Gage, Brandon, Madeline, Isabella,Wesley, and Adalynn; Great-great-grandchildren: Ciara, Owyn, Rylee, Eli, Caroline, Lexi, and Brantley; her sisters: Gloria Bauman and Nancy Wickham both of Rhinelander; and her sister-in-law: Joan Spengler. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother, Ronald Spengler.
Funeral services will be held for Virginia at 3:00 pm on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at the Church on the Hill (Shawano United Methodist Church) in Shawano with Rev. Claudia Deede officiating. Burial will be held in the Spring (TBD) in Northland Memorial Park in Rhinelander. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 28, 2020 from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano with Eastern Star services to be held at 6:30 pm. Visitation will also be held on Saturday at the church from 2:00 pm – 3:00pm prior to the funeral service.
