Obituary

Virginia C. Nickodem, age 95, of Loon Lake, Shawano, passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2020. Virginia was born on July 29, 1924, in Green Bay, daughter of the late William and Jessie (Baenen) Van Iten. She graduated from Green Bay East High School and then worked at a local store until she was married.

On October 14, 1944, she was united in marriage to the late Antone "Tony" Nickodem at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. The couple lived in Green Bay until 1976 when they built their retirement home on Loon Lake.

Virginia was a dedicated mother, devoting her life to her children. As a grandmother, she reveled in her grandchildren by playing with them, making the Christmas holidays special, and always finding the perfect kind of candy for the candy dish. As a great-grandmother she found joy in watching her great-grandchildren grow. She remained active by reading, stamp collecting, doing puzzles, cooking, canning, and swinging on her porch swing looking out at Loon Lake. She also enjoyed traveling throughout the states, by bus and car, with her late husband. Virginia was a wise soul to her family, her perspective will be greatly missed.

She was a devoted wife to Tony for 72 years. They raised six children, Judy North of De Pere, Gary (Karen) Nickodem of Green Bay, Linda (Richard) Berg of Oneida, Ruth (Jeff) Brisk of Manitou Springs, Colorado, Lyle Nickodem of Shawano, and Roger (Carrie) Nickodem of Shawano. There are twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren, and sister-in-law's, Mary (Donald) Stein and Katherine Janz both of Green Bay. She is further survived by several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Virginia was preceded in death by two brothers, Armond (Genevieve) Van Iten and William Van Iten; two sisters, Gladys Habeck and Shirley (Al) Baeten; four brothers-in-law, Michael (RoseMarie), Thomas, John and Joseph; one sister-in-law, Annie (Chuck) Zbyszyski; and one son-in-law, James North.

A celebration of Virginia's life will be held at a later date.
