Virginia Kathryn Waupochick, age 97 of Keshena, passed away Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at a local nursing home. Born on April 16, 1916 in Neopit, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Vernie (Harper) Fredenberg. On November 12, 1935 she was united in marriage to Antoine Waupochick in Keshena. Antoine preceded her in death on February 24, 1984. Virginia worked as the post master in Keshena for twenty years before retiring in 1954. She lived her entire life on the Menominee Indian Reservation and was a member of the St. Michael's Catholic Church where she was active in the St. Anne's Society and the 3rd Order of St. Francis of Assisi. Virginia loved the beauty of nature, especially around her Menominee Reservation home. She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading and doing creative writing. Virginia is survived by: 3 children, William Waupochick of Keshena, Anthony "Tony" (Fay) Waupochick of Keshena, Paula (Hari) Bhalla of San Diego, CA; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a great great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews. Virginia was preceded in death by: her husband, Antoine; a daughter, Barbara Wilber; her parents; and 2 brothers, Harper and William Fredenberg. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Keshena with the Rev. David McElroy O Praem officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano on Friday from 4:00-8:00pm and at the church on Saturday from 9:00am until the time of the service.
