Virginia Rose "Rosie" (Neconish) Waupoose, age 85, passed away on Saturday October 7, 2023, surrounded by family, at her home in Keshena. Rose was born on April 21, 1938, in Chicago, Illinois to the late Freeman and Madeline (Hanks) Neconish. On December 13, 1959, Virginia was united in marriage to LeRoy J. "Budge" Waupoose. She lived and worked in Milwaukee and Chicago before retiring and returning to the Keshena area. Virginia was active in the community and the Native American Church. She was a foster mother to many throughout the years.  She was a talented cook and made amazing fry bread. In Virginia's free time, she enjoyed playing bingo, making trips to the casino, playing cards and dice and attending Pow Wows.

Virginia is survived by her children, Lori Eiting, Gordon (Mickies) Neconish, Elroy Waupoose Fox, Colleen (Gary) Dodge, Sr., Furlin (Joyce) Hall, Gerry (Teri) Hall, Trudy Guenette, Wayne Brown Swenson, and Connie (Colin Kelley) Freeman; grandchildren, Krystofer (Jenny), Gordon "Rocky", Myah, Toria, Leah, Gary, Jr., Somer, Misti, Cody, Brody, Robi, Sara (Matt), Daniel (Holly), Melissa (Jackson), Mikey, Mariah, MaKaylee, Dacian, Krystal and Ross "Boo Man"(Jessica Nape) Laroque; and numerous great-grandchildren. She is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Virginia is preceded in death by her parents, Freeman and Madeline; a son, Randy (Arlene) Holder; grandchildren, Dylan and Aremina; sisters, Merceline Warrington, Mary Ann Waubanascum, Marie Wayka, Jennie Notinokey, Madeline (Kohel) Neconish and Roxy Green; brothers, Melvin Neconish, Louis Francis Neconish, Ron Neconish and LeRoy "John" "Sapatis" Neconish; and half-brothers, Albert Waupoose and Carl Waupoose.

A funeral mass for Virginia will be held at 10:00am on Saturday October 14, 2023, at St. Anthonys Catholic Church with Fr. Hanz Christian officiating. Visitation will be held at the Neopit Community Center starting on Thursday October 12, 2023, at 3:00pm and continuing until the time of service on Saturday.
