Wallace W. "Wally" Mehlhorn, age 87 of Shawano, formerly of Tilleda, passed away Friday, April 13, 2012 at Evergreen Care Center in Shawano. Born on September 18, 1924 in the Town of Belle Plaine, he was the son of the late Walter and Ida (Kriewaldt) Mehlhorn. Wally was a Veteran of the United States Army having served his country during World War II aboard the SS Charles Stafford Medical Ship. After service, Wally labored in various jobs in the area including work on several farms. He also loved carpentry work and helped build several homes. On January 7, 1978 he was united in marriage to Helen Koehler and together the couple made their home in Tilleda. Wally was a faithful member of the St. Martin Lutheran Church in the Town of Belle Plaine. Wally is survived by: 1 sister, Duwayne Pieper of Shawano; and friends, Mark and Laurie Schindler of Shawano. In addition to his parents, Wally was preceded in death by: his wife, Helen on October 16, 2002; and 3 brothers, Arnold, Fredrick and Elton. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at the St. Martin's Lutheran Church in the Town of Belle Plaine with the Rev. Kurt Kluge officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the Shawano American Legion Post #117.
