Obituary

Wallace Raymond Zernicke (Wally), age 85, Cecil, WI passed away peacefully at home on April 18, 2020.  He was born on January 14, 1935 in Shawano, WI.  He was the son of Raymond and Evelyn (Genke) Zernicke.  Wally attended grade school St. Paul Lutheran and graduated from Bonduel High School in 1953.  Wally was very active in High School acting as class president, FFA Member, lettering 12 times in sports, and being named All State in Football and Track.  In 2009, Wally was named to the Bonduel Sports Hall of Fame.  After High School Wally served in the US Navy from 1956-1958.  Upon returning Wally married the love of his life Ellen Carol Krueger at St Paul Lutheran church in Bonduel, WI.  Wally was blessed to run a successful dairy farm in Advance, WI all his life where he and Ellen raised their three sons Gregory, Wade, and Ryan.  Wally was a member of St Paul Lutheran Church in Bonduel where he served on several Boards including Chairman, Elder, and Board of Christian Education.  Wally's strong faith in God lead him throughout life's journey. He was a friend to all who knew him and had an infectious smile and quick witt.  Wally and his wife Ellen enjoyed their retirement years at their beautiful home in Pulcifer, on the Oconto River.  Wally enjoyed reading his daily devotions, watching his grandchildren grow, fixing things, putting up Holiday decorations, and was an avid sports fan.

Wally is survived in death by his wife Ellen and their three sons Gregory (Dawn) Zernicke of Marshfield, WI, Wade (Jane) Zernicke of Green Bay, WI and Ryan (Debbie) Zernicke of Cecil, WI.  Wally has five grandchildren Luke, Jake and Caleb Zernicke and Zachary and Amber Zernicke.  He also is survived by one sister Cheryl (Richard) Hokenstad of Appleton, WI.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Myrna Olson.

Private graveside services for Wally were held. Interment was held at Memorial Park Cemetery in Advance.

The family would like to give special thanks to their wonderful neighbors for their endless help and support and to Unity Hospice, especially Cheryl, for their care and compassion.
