IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Warren L
Hauer
August 13, 1938 – November 27, 2018
With hearts full of love and loss, we say farewell to Warren Lee Hauer. Warren passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 27th. He was 80 years old.
Warren was born on August 13th, 1938 in Duluth, Minnesota to Ruth and Earl Hauer. After graduating from Denfeld High School, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in science and mathematics at the University of Minnesota, Duluth, and a Master's degree in education at the University of Wisconsin, Superior.
In 1961, Warren enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and was stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. As a Lieutenant, he traveled throughout the South Pacific, Alaska, and Japan. Following honorable discharge in 1964, Warren was an instructor at the Officers Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island until 1966. He remained in the Naval Reserve until 1971.
In 1966, Warren returned to his hometown of Duluth, and began his career in education. Over time, he worked as a teacher, guidance counselor, and vice-principal. He continued in this field as principal of the Menominee Indian High School in Keshena, Wisconsin, and later as a high school principal in Onaway, Michigan. Warren was inspired by passing on knowledge to children, and loved the experience of seeing children understand subjects that they learned.
After retiring, Warren bought a home and settled down in Shawano. He enjoyed his retired life, and spent much time renovating his home and building custom furniture. He created beautiful gardens and landscape features on his property. Warren cherished many friendships in Shawano, and one of his favorite pastimes was entertaining and cooking for people in his home. He was also an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers. Warren's quick wit and charming personality will be missed by many.
Warren is survived by his life partner, Lois Mackay, and daughter Lee Ann MacDougall (James Moore) of Minneapolis, MN. Warren's family gratefully acknowledges his caregivers and friends who visited him during his last years at Shawano Health Services.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano with Rev. Scott Ludford officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the Shawano American Legion Post #117 following the service. Inurnment will be in Lake Drive Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from noon until the time of the service.
