Wayne A. "Tony" Peters, Sr., (loving known as "Chief" by his sons and grandsons) age 78 of Neopit, started his journey to the spirit world Sunday, March 16, 2014 at a local nursing home. Born on September 29, 1935 in South Branch, he was the son of the late John and Pauline (Warrington) Peters. After graduating from High School, Tony attended Haskell Indian Junior College. He worked as a sawyer at Menominee Tribal Enterprise for more than 30 years and as a plant manager for 5 years before retiring. On December 10, 1961 he was united in marriage to Davey Jean Pocan at the St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Neopit, where Tony was a member. When not at work, Tony enjoyed the outdoors whether riding his bike and taking a walk in the woods to say his prayers. He also loved spending time with his family and friends and affectionately gave everyone a nickname. Tony was an avid baseball fan and also cheered on the Green Bay Packers. His warm smile and unmatched sense of humor will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Tony is survived by: his wife of 52 years, Davey Jean; 8 children, Rita (Warren "Moon") Grignon of Neopit, Terry (Larry) Peters of Neopit, Wayne "Guy" (Carrie) Peters Jr. of Keshena, Dean (Mary) Peters Sr. of Neopit, Brian Peters Sr. of Neopit, Dale Peters of Neopit, Leslie (Richard) Peters of Neopit, Tammy Kinney of Neopit; 31 grandchildren, Davey Jean, Racquel and Antone Boyd, Gerome and Samuel Peters, Dean Peters Jr., Damien, Danielle, Denise, Dillon, Devonna, Dallas, Megan and Marissa Peters, Stallon Sechrist, Johnny Kinney, Daynell Grignon-Bear, Warren Grignon Jr., James Grignon, Myrna Peters, Brian Peters Jr., Brinks, Bernadette, Brittany and Bo Peters, Brandon Webster, Raini Moede, Rita Goodbear, Stewart Peters, Styles Sechrist, Joel Kinney Jr.; 46 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters-in-law, Eileen Burris, Pat (Louis) Perez, Sairyal Pocan; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. Tony was preceded in death by: a son, Stuart Peters; a granddaughter, Deanna Peters; his parents; a sister, Violet Miller; and 2 brothers, Marvin "Sam" and Clifford Peters. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at the St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Neopit. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Dean Peters residence located at 3626 1st Avenue in Neopit from noon on Tuesday until the procession leaves for the church on Thursday. A Parish Wake service will be held at the residence on Wednesday at 7:00pm. In honor of Tony's admiration for baseball, the family welcomes everyone to wear their favorite baseball jersey to the funeral. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Bellin Health in Green Bay and to the staff at Evergreen Care Center in Shawano, especially Ruby Boyd, for the wonderful care given to Tony. Also, a special thank you to Tony's granddaughters Davey Jean Boyd, Daynell Grignon-Bear and Myrna Peters for all they have done for their grandfather.
