Obituary

William Boyd Nowell, Sr., age 82, passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2022, in Shawano. William was born on January 25, 1940, the only child of the late Eugene and Lillie Jones. William was born and raised in Honey Grove, Texas until the age of 14 when his family moved to Wisconsin. He loved to ride his horse, Fred, to school barefoot because it made him feel like a real cowboy! He graduated from Shawano High School. William was united in marriage to Patricia Marie Nuske. She preceded him in death in 2008. William proudly served as a veteran in the United States Air Force for four years. He later worked in a variety of fields including truck driving, mill rite, sales and marketing.

William had a great sense of humor and loved to make people laugh when he would talk like Donald Duck. His children carry that tradition with them because, of course, they were all taught at an early age how to speak Donald Duck also. William also enjoyed doing Elvis Presley impersonations for his family and friends. Time with family was important to William. He spent a lot of time outdoors doing activities like pheasant hunting with the men in the family and his favorite bird dog, Frank, or camping and fishing on the Oconto South Branch trout stream. Our family will always remember the holidays we celebrated together with huge family style meals. William enjoyed these gatherings immensely. His favorite meal was grandma's fried chicken. Many nights he would watch old western movies while snacking on popcorn or potato chips and snuggling his little dogs, Bugsy and Scooter. He was very skilled at making engraved wood signs, clocks and other crafty items that people loved.

He is survived by his children, Teresa (Timothy, "Tim") Dorsey, Valinda (William) Joachim, William "Billy" Boyd (Char) Nowell, Jr., and Patricia (Gary Dekeyser) Bohm. He is further survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

William is preceded in death by a daughter, Jennifer in infancy.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, October 10, 2022, at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Shawano with Deacon James Lonick officiating. Visitation will be held at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano on Monday from 1:00 pm until the time of procession to the cemetery.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to William's cousin, Sharon; his neighbor, Sherry; and all the people who checked on him to make certain he had everything he needed in his apartment. We would also like to thank all the staff at the Birch Hill Healthcare Center and Compassus Hospice for the wonderful kindness, compassion and care they gave to William and the family during such a difficult time.

We love you Dad! ~ Teri, Billy, Valinda, and Patty
