Obituary

William L. "Billy White" Washinawatok, 79, of Keshena, started his journey to the Spirit World Sunday February 19, 2012 at his home, surrounded by Family and Friends. Born August 10, 1932, in Keshena, he was the youngest son of the late Peter and Elizabeth (Warrington) White. After graduation from Flandreau Indian High School, he enlisted into the United States Army. He also attended St. Lawrence University in Appleton and MATC in Milwaukee. He was united in marriage to Rosalie Corn on November 11, 1962 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Neopit. After an Honorable Discharge from the Service he worked for the State of Wisconsin as Job Service Specialist until he retired. Bill was an avid Green Bay Packer and Milwaukee Brewer Fan. As a young man he enjoyed fishing. He also loved spending time with his wife, daughter and grandchildren. Bill is survived by: his wife of 50 years, Rose; 1 daughter, Elizabeth (Virgil) Washinawatok-Julius, Keshena; 3 grandsons, Christopher Newton, WV, Kyle Newton, Oshkosh, Vincent (Elmira Corn) Newton, IL; 1 granddaughter, Angela Newton, Green Bay; and 1 great-granddaughter, Kaybree Newton, Neopit. He is further survived by: 5 sisters-in-law, Rena White, Helen (Norman) Peterson, Elaine Oku, Susan Oshkosh, Jean Corn; 1 brother-in-law, Danny (Deb) Corn; 3 special nieces, Joyce Menchaca, Karla (Marlin) Basina, Sherry (Roger) Waupoose-Isham; 3 special friends, Mark Caskey, Lawrence Richmond, Stewart Boyles; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by: his parents; 4 sisters, Margaret Pecore, Mary Jane Cox, Mary Elizabeth White, Lillian Plass; and 4 brothers, Louis Washinawatok, Joseph White, James Washinawatok, and Peter White. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, February 23, 2012 at the St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Neopit with the Rev. Robert Rank officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Veterans of the Menominee Nation at the church following the service. Inurnment will be in the church cemetery following cremation. Visitation will be held at the Washinawatok residence located at N680 Burnett Lane in Keshena after 5pm on Tuesday until the procession leaves for the church on Thursday. A Parish Wake service will be held at the residence on Wednesday at 8pm. Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano is assisting the family with the arrangements. www.swedbergfuneralhome.com
